Hello All.
Has anyone found or suspected employer surveillance of your personal phone? If so, how did you discover it?
I believe this is being abused by companies and want it stopped.
Did an interview a few weeks ago and the recruiter was talking about "protecting the company" and out of the blue my phone app on my cell phone crashed as well as the phone itself. He tried to cover it up by saying by apologizing and said "my phone was died".
This company reached out to me and knew I have been going through some hard times. Weird. How did they know?
I also believe my past employer was doing this as well and the company he sold out to. I used to get spam threads all the time when i got a new phone. Some of them pretty good with links from credit card swipe that attaches to a phone (forget their name) with link to the receipt. I fell for that one...
I use a voip app on my cell phone to make calls. I thought it would help secure things on my cell phone by not disclosing the actual cell number. Now I am not sure. Brand new phone too...
Any helpful insight and direction is helpful.
Thanks
Mike

Hi mag1969, I'm not sure that I followed all the details of your post, but in general, if you use your personal smartphone for work, then the company does have the ability to collect some personal information. If you install work apps, sign into your work account, or connect to your work VPN, this can give your workplace some level of access to your phone. It's necessary and it's legal. For example, they may need to delete any work related stuff off of your phone after you quit or monitor to make sure you're not sharing work IP. Companies should be trustworthy with this access, but some aren't. If you want the highest level of privacy then never use your personal phone for any work. I linked an article from Fast Company on the topic. www.fastcompany.com/90440073/if-you-use-your-personal-phone-for-work-say-goodbye-to-your-privacy

Back in my young stupid days, I did sign a blank form or lose your health insurance. I did take a picture on my phone that mysteriously disappeared and made a xerox copy of the form. I believe this is being traded, sold, behind the scenes from company to company.
This is not legal in anyway shape or form but the burden of proof is on me. Back in the day i was lead to believe this wasnt even possible on an iphone. but I know differnet now, thanks to ed snowden.
Like I said this last suspected incident was an interview. I didnt apply for a job. They called me out of the blue.

I use a voip App to make phone calls from my cell phone. As to not disclose my "private cell number"....
Again, This last incident was during an interview. I am not an employee... There was never any consent given for anything
