I consider myself a coffee connoisseur. What's your favorite thing to drink?
Most mornings I drink Pete's Major Dickason's or French blend K-cups. If I go out, I'll usually do black americano or cold brew.

Fellow coffee snob ova hea! I primarily buy from my local roaster: templecoffee.com/Typically, single origin beans are my go-to, usually Ethiopian Sidamo or Yirgacheffe. But a very close second is anything Colombian. Burr grind at home only. I prefer city roast or city plus roast (depends on the bean, of course). To my palate, French roast ends up burning all the sugars (no matter how well done) and is just a waste of a good bean. I use the Aeropress most of the time. If I need to make more than a single serving I'll do a pour over method over whatever vessel or carafe is needed. The coffee machine is pretty much for looks, I don't use it unless I need to make a LOT of coffee. Timer is just my phone (120-130 seconds brewing), thermometer is my Thermapen probe (I start at 200F but ending at 185F is acceptable). I weigh the beans with a gram scale (the regular food scale doesn't do decimals).

This may become my new favorite thread!
I got rid of my coffee machine and espresso machine years ago and have been doing pour-overs ever since. Freshly ground every morning. I installed a insta-hot water tank under my kitchen sink. But now that we are living in our 5th wheel, I have to heat up my coffeewater on the stove. The new house will definitely have an insta-hot! I also have a french press, but it is rarely used. I have been drinking deathwish coffee for several years. The darker the better for me, the only addition is a dash of heavy cream.
If I'm out and about, I will typically order a double shot espresso or an americano. I've not been a fan of "purchased" cold brew, but I do like it when I make my own (which I did for the PE Exam lunchtime pick-me-up).

I have to heat up my coffeewater on the stove This is probably preferred anyway, I believe! This needs verification, but I was instructed to always start with fresh, cold water to keep as much of the dissolved oxygen as possible (versus the insta-hot reservoir or a countertop hot water heater). Honestly, I really don't mind the ritual of firing up the kettle. Same goes for tea (should we have a separate tea thread? I like tea, too).

We really enjoy french press on the weekends. We sometimes put additives in it like cinnamon.

Cold brew: I use a clean, 64 oz. old kimchi jar to make cold brew in the fridge. I leave it out for 12-24 hours at room temp and move it to the fridge after. It might live there for 24-48 hours depending on demand, but then I'll filter it into a clean glass carafe with a lid and put that back in the fridge. Then I just meter out what I want for the week. Although tbh, I usually drink all of in it in a day or two because I have a problem.
Edit: Forgot to mention, I do make it on the concentrated side so I usually cut it with water as needed. In a pinch, I don't cut it and just mainline it for a boost before work! Bzzzzzzzz!

Although tbh, I usually drink all of in it in a day or two because I have a problem. I only have one LARGE cup of coffee a day (usually), which really equates to about three 8-oz cups. Does anyone really drink only 8-oz? This is probably preferred anyway, I believe! This needs verification, but I was instructed to always start with fresh, cold water to keep as much of the dissolved oxygen as possible (versus the insta-hot reservoir or a countertop hot water heater). This is probably very true. Honestly, now that I'm not working in the office and don't have to leave my house by 5am, I don't mind taking the extra time to heat the coffee.

I'm too lazy to do a pour-over every day, so shout out to you who do! My daily drink is a Sumatra medium roast from a local roaster, brewed in a automatic grind/brew machine. After a demonstration of different coffee processes in Costa Rica, I'm very interested in natural/dry process coffee.
Can we all agree that Starbucks is awful?

Can we all agree that Starbucks is awful? 100% agree! I was quite discouraged when we traveled to New York City a few years ago and the "best" coffee I could find was Starbucks....

You just didn't know where to go. There are many small shops that are good and small shops that are bad. I hope you weren't getting street cart coffee. I sometimes get those because it's cheap and convenient, but not the greatest. Next time you are in the city check out Cafe Grumpy (multiple locations), The Grind on 9th and 43rd, Culture Espresso (multiple locations).

I don't mind their blonde roast coffee and some of their dark roasts. I am definitely no fan of pike place roast. Definitely not in my list of favorites either way, but there are so many locations in NYC so it's convenient.

But no street cart coffee. One small shop I went to, don't remember what it was called, but I actually had to dump the coffee out it was so bad! That's when I finally just resorted to Starbucks.

Oh yeah forgot to mention deli/bodega coffee is usually about the same quality as street cart coffee. There are some exceptions though.
I've had some good coffee at steakhouses as well actually.

Believe it or not there are only two Starbucks in my town (and one of them is a stand in a grocery store). Thankfully the "local" chain, Biggby, is much better and has 9 locations in the area.

I brought my spare Aeropress to the office. This was a good choice. Government coffee is uh...lacking.
