Okay, this is NOT a place to turn into a CrossFit MLM or whatever those box things are. To be clear, there is more to fitness and nutrition than simply CrossFit!
Now that I have gotten that out the way… Let me talk a minute about my personal, normal workout arrangement.
Back in the old days I used to go for 5x/week weight training, but now I’m more like 3x/week. I complement that with a bike commute of about 15 miles round trip 1x/week, a 5-6 mile run every weekend, and sometimes something additional as well.
For weight training, I am an exclusive at home workout person and mainly utilize Lauren Gleisberg’s plans. They are so good and very reasonably priced — don’t be turned off by her blonde hair, blue eyes, super skinny looks. Her plans work!
And as far as nutrition goes? My family tries to eat mostly vegetarian/vegan (more vegetarian between the two), mainly because we are big fans of non-meat based meals. Think beans, legumes, tofu, eggs, etc., plus lots of whole grains and produce. We do end up eating meat about 1-2 days a week, but it’s all good — everything in moderation!
And in case you forgot — abs are made in the kitchen!

Huzzah! Thanks to leggo PE for starting this thread! Hi, I'm a Square. I'm of the opinion that I eat generally healthy: LOTS of whole grains (bulgur, farro, millet, oats, quinoa, teff flour, amaranth, etc.) and legumes (Rancho Gordo squad represent!) but I admit I occasionally eat to excess (hellooooo sushi!). LadySquare is vegan so we don't keep any animal products in the house, so that is actually pretty easy to handle. For fitness, I am all about cardio. I believe that humans were bred to run (persistence hunting? hellooo!) but I believe that well-rounded fitness can come in many forms. I'm with leggo PE in that "abs are made in the kitchen" so, as an example, tofu etc. to me, based on my upbringing, isn't a meat adjunct, it's just regular food. Stuff like that. We'll take a deep dive as time goes on. Regardless of what our individual journeys look like, I am with you all when dealing with our individual challenges. Here's to our wellness!

Genuine question... not trying to be difficult. So am I allowed to talk about my "CrossFit" workouts? That is my preferred flavor of fitness. If not, how is CrossFit defined? Because I've never been part of a CrossFit box and cross-functional training has been around WAY longer than CrossFit.

Edit: I am a big fan of what I call my "paleo" CrossFit workout AKA doing stuff in the yard like digging holes, clearing brush, chopping trees/branches with an axe, lifting things. It's a joke, of course.

I mean, it’s just been notorious that CrossFit has taken over and CrossFit can alienate/annoy some people because every CrossFitter seems to be brainwashed into believing it and only it is the preferred form of exercise.
We can talk about CrossFit here but just don’t want it to be exclusively CrossFit! Besides, nutrition is a whole different thing than CrossFit, anyway.

Maintained weight through the holiday temptations! Loaded up on fruit n veg before the meals. People brought too many desserts but I don't like sweets anyway so that was easy to dodge.

I've gained 10-15 lbs or so since Christmas and am unsuccessfully trying to lose it. Maybe when I start a martial art in september things will be better?

Maybe when I start a martial art Ooh, whatcha gonna practice?? I did Judo for about 11-12 years (well OK, I started in 5th grade). I miss it but can't make the commitment to train anymore. Or anyway, enough to be any good at it.

All I know for sure is that the oldest MiniCheb and I are going to do it as a fun father-son activity for us to do together.

I think either would be great (although I am, of course, biased towards just regular flavour Judo). But either one would definitely help kiddos with proprioception and develop comfort with physicality. I definitely gained a lot of physical confidence that was sorely needed for a scrawny and shy 11-year-old.
Look, literally anything but karate, which is just basically just dancing (joking!).

But either one would definitely help kiddos with proprioception and develop comfort with physicality that uh...is probably lacking these days. If I have severely poor depth perception, does that mean I need to practice my proprioception too?

My supervisor does Jiu-Jitsu. He loves it. Probably twice a year he comes to work with a black eye.

Lol, tried to post earlier and it got erased/I messed up. I used to try and be fit, and it didn't work. Had ultra-PT due to a hip issue from oly lifting near the end of 2021 and then just...stopped going to the gym due to my hip still hurting/recovering with walking and taking care of parents. Joined a gym after I moved to a new state/left VA job for a different federal position. Signed up for hour personal training 2x/week, which will force me to go because it's expensive and I hate wasting money and other people's time. Have been super stressed from cleaning out my parents' house (they're...leaning towards being hoarders) and starting a new job at the same time as well as the holidays. Back to the grind. Workout 1/3; - Stretch, box jump, 10x4 (16"), lunge twisting wall ball slams, 10 each sidex4 (14lb)
- Dumbbell floor press, 8x4 (30lb)
- Single arm strict press, 8 each sidex4, (20lbx3, 25lb)
- Pull ups, 8x3 (purple band)
- JM press w/ EZ Bar, 8x3 (53lb x2, 58lb)
- Bent over row, 6 each sidex3 (30lb, 40lbx2)
- Sitting rear delt fly, 8x4 (10lb)
Hopefully I can keep this up. Want to do a single unassisted pullup this year a get a new PR for deadlift. Deadlift, I topped out at 248lb before I hurt myself and want to at least get back to that solidly. Already hitting 205lbs when doing the 5x5 easily.
