Figured it would be good to have a separate thread for California. I'm currently stuDYING for the seismic exam. August test date is paid for and locked in!

Reading the exam bulletin. Looks like I have to bring my own wooden #2 pencil! What is this, 1992?
Mechanical pencils are expressly prohibited.

Are you sure your reading the current bulletin??? When I last attempted the CA-Specific test, I was unable to bring any writing instrument, it was provided at the test center. If they have banned mechanical pencils, it's likely due to the current assembly methods. I know I could take mine apart and "hide" a piece of paper in there if absolutely necessary. The NCEES mechanical pencils of old couldn't be taken apart easily.

"Prometric’s COVID-19 safety procedures currently prohibit Prometric from providing pencils for candidates to use on their scratch paper. Therefore, you may bring your own #2 wooden pencils to use during your exam until the safety procedures are no longer necessary. You may use up to two pencils at a time and store extra pencils in your locker for later use. Mechanical pencils will not be allowed."
Edit: Great, now I have to dig around the garage looking for a wooden pencil!

Wow, number 2 pencils! Throwback, for sure. Make sure they’re nice and sharp! Don’t worry about the erasers too much — you probably won’t have time to erase!

I've got a supply of carpenters pencils; although I don't think that will help you much right now.

I took the PE exam at the same location I took the FE exam. Which really meant very uncomfortable chairs/tables and one of the only times I've ever seen women's restroom lines non-exist while the men's lines were, well basically almost everyone there!

Exam done! Not feeling great about it, but at least it's over and I can take a break for...a week for the scores to be reported? Maybe two? If I don't pass this round, I feel pretty good about a second attempt. I ran out of time to do all the practice problems I wanted and recognized some questions on the exam but wasn't fast enough on retrieving the appropriate formulas. I definitely over-tabbed, too. Oh well.
Edit: Note to self - review rigid diaphragm analysis and tricksy story drift problems. Non-structural component analysis, too.

Aaaaaand I failed seismic. Will attempt it again in January 2023 although to be 100% honest, I could have studied more but I was bogged down with work and should have just rescheduled it. But! It was a good test balloon to see the real thing and now I know what to focus on.
Edit: I still have my Authorization To Test for the surveying exam this quarter so I'll give that a shot in December.
