Let’s all work together to continue to update this thread as more information becomes available about the transfer of the S.E. exam to the CBT format. The latest update was in this podcast, issued by NCEES: ncees.org/podcast-jason-gamble/Only three remaining P&P exams as of this post!

I'm still on the fence on whether this will be good change.
On one hand, I enjoy the CBT environment. No wheelbarrows of books, no proctors, no non-optional lunch break, and everything is provided to you in your own isolated cubicle. And we'll possibly be able to schedule any of the tests in whichever order and on whichever day of the year. No more taking Thursday / Friday off from work.
On the other hand, the format of the new exam is a bit questionable. Way too many pre-test questions for my liking, and taking four days off to do one exam is a bit much. And that's assuming you pass all four sessions the first time. Also, the SE exam benefits from having additional material. The laminated CodeMaster Design Guides are very helpful, for example.

Article on the new SE format here: www.structuremag.org/?p=21592TLDR: Concerns: Longer exam, 21 hours vs 16 hours, 4 sittings vs 2 sittings, costlier. May deter younger engineers from the SE path, may stifle attempts for states to adopt the separate SE requirement. May direct young engineers into completely different field of engineering, or different major altogether.

I have pretty much decided to wait for CBT, but would be interested to see what they come up with for a reference handbook first. Which, by then will be too late.
